DIY Harry Potter Hogwarts Desk Organizer

Hello again, and we're back with more Harry Potter nerdiness! You might recall our previous post about how we made the DIY Harry Potter Backpack. Well, this time it's equally cool and functional, but even more inexpensive! Created by nonother than the avid Harry Potter fan and mind-blowing crafts, Lauren Fairweather!

I apologize for not providing any photos or videos of my process.  This is what happens with very last minute Christmas gift crafting at 2 am! Overall this only took about 1 hour to put together. Later when I make sure the glue is secure, I spray painted one coat and let it dry for 1 hour. Sprayed another coat to get the missed spots and let it dry overnight. Note that I painted the cardboard rolls separate from the Hogwarts castle. I also chose to leave out the star templates, as cute as they are and got actual Harry Potter stickers with Ravenclaw for Amy to choose on how to decorate her organizer

MATERIALS USED

  • 1 Standard Sized Cereal Box - L: 8 in. W: 1.75 in. H: 12 in. (dependent on brand)
  • 1 Larger Sized Cereal Box - L: 8 in. W: 5.5 in. H: 12 in. (dependent on brand)
  • 12 Toilet Paper Cardboard Rolls
  • Blue Spray Paint
  • Xacto Knife
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Printer and Paper (to print the template)

This recreation pretty much followed her video tutorial with the exception of using different sized boxes, not using the star templates and blue spray paint. Be sure to watch her quick video! Not only is she thorough and efficient but she her cheerful aura and reassurance will definitely get your crafty confidence soaring!

Lauren is an absolute genius in making cool craft projects and simplifying the process as much as possible for everyone to follow. She even takes the time to look into materials to get the best results at a reasonable price. Let us know what kinds of crafts you want to do!

  1. I see that your organizer is larger than hers is. Did you add an additional step in order to make your organizer so much longer than hers??

    1. Hi! The only difference was my cereal box was deeper than the standard size. (it said family size on the box haha) But the front and back of the boxes are the same width as hers. So I didn't really need to make any adjustments to her DIY instructions.
